Beverly Hills screenwriter Peter Hanson has taken the interviews from his book Tales From The Script and turned them into a documentary of the same name having its Los Angeles premiere today at 5:30, 7:30 and 10 p.m., and running for a week, at The Music Hall Theatre, 9036 Wilshire Blvd. Question-and-answer sessions with Hanson will follow tonight's screenings.
“The screenwriter is often the person who joined a project first and is the first to get jettisoned,” said Hanson. So for his book and movie he spoke with more than 30 screenwriters who he found were eager to participate.
“Altruistically they wanted to give advice to help others coming up the ladder avoid their mistakes,“ Hanson said. “And often they wanted to grind axes about the way writers are treated so horribly in Hollywood—and tell some juicy stories.”
Hanson is particularly proud of securing an interview with his personal hero and two-time Oscar winner William Goldman (Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid, All The President's Men) who discusses his motto “Nobody knows anything.“
“What he means,“ Hanson says, “is that it’s impossible to predict with any certainly what will be successful.“
