Last Friday, 9-year-old Isabel Morris, and her sister Estelle, 5, visited the Children's Hospital Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, where Isabel was rushed just five hours after her birth because of a serious heart defect. She was joined By Alan Lewis, M.D., her pediatric cardiologist
Isabel brought baby blankets and booties she collected with her third grade class.
Isabel wanted to do something for the young heart and lung patients in the CTICU, where she spent several weeks as a child. Diagnosed with Truncus Arteriosis, she underwent heart surgery from cardiothoracic surgeons Vaughn Starnes and Winfield Wells.
She came back at 3-months old for follow-up surgery to fix other heart problems, and spent another week in the CTICU. And when she was 2 1/2, she came back for a third and final surgery, and went home five days later.
“We thank God every day for our precious daughter, Isabel, and she is thriving and having a wonderful life,” said Jill Morris, Isabel’s mother.
