George Chavez, well known and much admired Assistant Director of Community Planning for the City of Beverly Hills, is also a board member of CALBO (California Building Officials). CALBO held their last board meeting at the Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women & Children, founded in 1984 to assist the most vulnerable of the homeless population and they provide housing and supportive services for up to 93 women and 40 children a night. Last Saturday boardmembers, family, and "angel" Reggie Sully created an amazing play area out of a plain rarely used meeting area. The members contributed all the paint, carpet, and shelving in addition to play structures, a basketball set up, and an amazing train set. Seen here at work are George and his daughter Gracie at work, some of the children and moms exulting during their first visit.

Hari and Anna Leung won ASCO Merit Awards for their presentations at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) GI Cancers Symposium in San Francisco last month. Only 20 young surgeons received awards, most from institutions larger than JWCI.
