Beverly Hills now has its own song, 90210 Beverly Hills, which was performed by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr to the public for the first time at the 9.02.10 Celebration Event last night.
It was written and composed by Hal David and Charles Fox, who presented Mayor Jimmy Delshad with the original sheet music after the performance.
"We have the official copy of 90210 Beverly Hills signed to you mayor," David said while presenting it to him on stage.
9.02.10 Day has been in the works since 2007, when Delshad announced his plans for the event during his first term as Mayor.
His first task for the event was finding a songwriter who could capture Beverly Hills’ essence in a few lyrics.
Delshad
was referred to David by friend Richard Rosenzweig, who serves on the
Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Board with David’s wife
Eunice.
David has written hundreds of songs that have appeared
in numerous films and television shows including The Love Boat and
Laverne & Shirley.
He is best known for his partnership with
composer Burt Bacharach, which produced such hits as Do You Know The
Way To San Jose, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, What the World Needs Now
and Say A Little Prayer.
He also wrote, Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head.
For 90210 Beverly Hills, the lyricist partnered with well-known composer Fox.
The two completed the song in only one week.
