In the second half of 2011, the City will begin the conceptual design of plans to reconstruct North Santa Monica Boulevard to address bicycle issues.
“Part of the discussion will include the examining the possibility of including bike lane markings on the boulevard without widening the existing roadway,” Deputy Director of Transportation Aaron Kunz said.
In August, an Ad-hoc committee was formed to evaluate the City's interests and needs.
After this initial evaluation is completed in early 2011, the Traffic & Parking Commission will engage the community for input and develop a scope of work to present to the City Council, Kunz said.
Bicycle lanes, amenities and safety measures will be explored by the Traffic & Parking Commission.
The next Traffic & Parking meeting is in February 2011.
