Three people died in a high-speed collision at the entrance to Long Beach Peninsula just after midnight last night.
A black car headed west crashed into the stone peninsula icon at Ocean Boulevard and 55th Place and was broken apart, according to images captured by Long Beach firefighter Steve Yamamoto.
A green car crashed into something moving eastbound, Yamamoto said, adding that both vehicles were moving at a high speed.
The driver of the black car, a man, was dead at the scene, and two women were ejected and also dead at the scene, Yamamoto said.
A man thrown from the car was taken to a hospital with severe injuries, he said.
Two people ran from the green car, and one was caught at Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, Yamamoto said.
The names of those killed and injured were unavailable.
