A man suspected of fatally shooting a neighbor in a Torrance apartment complex was found dead today of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
SWAT officers found the suspect a few hours into the search of the apartment complex at 4023 242nd St., near Hawthorne Boulevard, said Sgt. Jeremiah Hart of the Torrance Police Department.
It appears the suspect was in his own apartment and that he shot himself, Hart said.
Police were called to the apartment complex about 3:40 p.m. Sunday and found the victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds, Hart said.
The SWAT team got a search warrant and began looking for the suspect at about 10 p.m. Hart said there were no other victims, and the reason for the murder-suicide is unclear.
But the assistant manager of the complex, David Black, told KCAL9 today that the dispute was over the kind of music the victim was playing.
Black added that "for something to go this bad over music is ridiculous.'
"This is such a nice area, hardly any crime, it's secluded and the people are very friendly,' he said.
Neighbors told Channel 9 that the victim had just moved in with his new girlfriend and was the father of four children.
The suspect was very much a loner, they said.
The names of the victim and the shooter were not immediately released.
