At an April 22 seminar, Dr. Zein Obagi will debunk some of the myths about anti-aging skin care. Dr. Obagi is known for his charismatic, provocative style. His interviews, quotes and accolades include USA Today, Vogue, Allure, InStyle, US Weekly, Fox News, ABC News, Dermatology Times and Cosmetic Dermatology. He is an internationally renowned educator and research clinician, and a leading expert in skin health.
In spite of the recession, women today spend more money on skin care--creams, lotions, injections, fillers, peels, lasers--than ever before. In fact, research conducted by Harris Interactive revealed that women would rather invest in products that make them look 10 years younger than products that make them look 10 pounds thinner. They're spending a lot of time and money to get rid of their lines, wrinkles and age spots, “and that’s unfortunate,” says Obagi, an internationally known dermatologist
“The fact is that many of these products don’t work; and in fact they can accelerate the signs of aging,” he says.
About Dr. Zein Obagi
Dr. Obagi is a maverick in skin care and doesn’t always agree with his fellow dermatologists. Now, once again, in his tell-it-like-it-is, no-holds-barred style, he’s going to speak about some of the new over-the-counter anti-aging products at the seminar at his Obagi Skin Health Institute, at 270 N. Cañon Dr. in Beverly Hills.
The seminar, “Face the Facts,” will reveal what products and procedures work, and which ones are a waste of time and/or money. New research will allow him to debunk some of the myths about topical skin care, as well as explain the results and risks of medical procedures.
Professional skin care in the United States is continuing to grow at double-digit rates, despite the global recession. The market is growing because of the size of the baby boomer population, celebrity spokes-persons, more doctor brands and lower price points.
“Unfortunately, the cosmetics industry has gotten greedy, and pumped a lot of products on the market that are based on voodoo science and frou-frou ingredients,” Obagi says. “Let’s get down to basics, and talk about what really works. Because if you’re a woman aged 40-plus, you’re old enough to know better.”
