SoCal beachfront haven for families offers even more fun in the sun.
For more than 120 years, the legendary Hotel del Coronado has been paradise for children of all ages. The 28-acre resort offers an expansive white-sand beach, lush gardens, a nearby marina, several pools and a full-time Recreation Department to cater to a family’s every whim.
Now, The Del is pleased to introduce two all-new activities centers and programming for children and teenagers. Scheduled to be unveiled this month, Kidtopia and Vibz will make this a summer to remember at the world-renowned resort.
Kidtopia
The Del’s new facility for children 4-12 will feature bright and fun colors, underwater murals and separate beach-themed rooms for crafts and playtime. The playroom’s center stage is perfect for talent shows, dance-offs and performances of all kinds.
There’s also a cool climbing unit, a crazy funhouse mirror and high-tech entertainment stations with computers, movie-time media and a Dance Dance Revolution game.
Kidtopia will offer half-day camps and shorter programs with entertaining and educational crafts and activities. Camps, which will include either lunch or dinner, will feature scavenger hunts, sandcastle contests, beach Olympics, luaus, bonfires and more.
Vibz
The Del is thrilled to unveil a new year-round hangout dedicated to teens, 13-17. Vibz, a contemporary lounge, is the perfect escape for those looking for a break from family. This exciting hotspot will offer billiards, foosball, computers, movie-time media, Dance Dance Revolution and , most importantly the opportunity for teens to meet other people their own age.
Kidtopia and Vibz were designed by Texas-based M. Kaser & Assoc-iates Inc. and are centrally located near The Del’s main pool.
A secure check-in area allow parents ease of access to the facility and the assurance that their kids are under the protective care of The Del’s trained staff.
“We are delighted to be able to offer these state-of-the-art facilities to our younger guests. The design and age-focused programming make it fun and educational for kids of all ages and interests,” said Todd Shallan, vice president and general manager.
In addition to Kidtopia and Vibz, The Del offers year-round surfing lessons for those 6 and up, plus bike, surrey, cabana, surfboard, boogie board and volleyball rentals.
The nearby boathouse has kayaks, jet skis, paddleboats, wakeboarding and more.
Kids will love strolling through the Shops at The Del with D. Kids & Co for fashionable, beach-inspired apparel, and Spreckels Sweets & Treats, an old-fashioned candy store. And no trip to the resort is complete without an ice cream stop at MooTime Creamery.
Teens can also browse the shops for the latest styles and brands of sunglasses, shoes, apparel, bath and body products. Or, just hang out and enjoy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs on the Sun Deck or coffee drinks at Babcock & Story Bakery. For the ultimate indulgence, Spa at The Del offers treatments designed specifically for those 13 and older.
During the summer, The Del offers an extended schedule of activities for families including Bingo tournaments on the pool deck, Family S’mores Night at the beach and Flick N’ Float movie night, where guests can watch a film from an inner tube.
