A game that saw great individual plays, especially from senior players, along with great team play, added up to a shut out of the Morningside Monarchs last Fri-day, 31-0 at Coleman Field in Inglewood.
The Norman’s first points came in the first quarter when senior Willy Wood scored on a 25-yard field goal.
The second quarter saw a 20- yard touchdown pass to the goal line from junior quarterback Josh Newman to senior receiver Daniel Bradbury, bringing the score to 10-0.
The first half ended with an interception by senior safety Markus Silbiger.
The third quarter opened with an early touchdown on a 40- yard pass from Newman to a wide open Bradbury, followed by a 40-yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Cam-eron Countryman, playing out of the wildcat offense.
The extra point was kicked by senior Parsa Peykar. With the score at 24-0, the rest of the game was played with senior quarterback Jon Davidi, who threw a 20- yard TD pass to senior receiver Donovan Dickens in the fourth quarter.
Peykar also kicked that extra point, bringing the final score to 31-0.
The game also saw a lot of defensive action, with the Normans recovering three fumbles, one by junior defensive end Greg Townsend, another when Silbiger first landed on the ball, but senior lineman Camyar Meshkaty came up with it in the end, and one by senior lineman Brandon Pina.
The Monarchs had a couple of long-run plays, but the Norman defense held them on fourth downs each time, keeping the team scoreless.
After the game the coaches had much praise for the team’s second-half play, and look to build on this team effort and momentum as they prepare for tonight’s final home game against Culver City, which has no losses in league.
To make the playoffs, BHHS must win today, while Inglewood and/or Santa Monica must lose.
Since tonight’s game is Senior Night, all senior players will be acknowledged with their families before the kickoff.
